Maturing terms are about 40-50 days. Plants have many leaves. Most often, gardeners acquire such varieties:

  • keep the seeds in water for at least three days, most importantly, change the water 3-5 times a day;
  • take out the seeds, squeeze the bag slightly and lay them out to dry.

Dill is a photophilous plant, when planted in shade or partial shade, the quality of greenery decreases, the leaves become faded, lose their aroma.

The soil for dill and parsley should be loose and light. Too damp areas are not for our vegetable.

Soil acidity also affects plants. On acidic soils, dill turns red. On alkaline – acquires a yellow color. Yes, and the yield is sharply reduced. Neutral soil is best suited for the plant.

When preparing the ridges, humus or compost is introduced in the fall. About six kilograms of organic fertilizers will be required per square meter. If it is not possible to purchase humus, you can use mineral fertilizers: Kemira Universal, Mortar.

If the soil is too heavy, a little river sand is added before digging. In heavy soils, dill does not develop well due to poor air permeability.

Not every plant gets along with dill. For example, carrots and celery are antagonists for it: the plant lacks nutrients, it lags behind in development.

When to sow seeds in the ground

You can sow dill or parsley seeds for greenery at any time: in autumn, winter, spring and summer. The principle of planting is almost the same, although there are some nuances that gardeners should be aware of.

As for the timing of planting, they depend on the region of cultivation. Germination begins at a temperature of +3 degrees, seedlings do not die when frosts down to -3 degrees. But dill and parsley begin to sprout fastest at a temperature of +15 degrees.

Spring and summer sowing

If the beds are prepared in the fall, then in the spring they need to be loosened. Then grooves are made at a distance of 20-25 cm, depending on the variety of dill. The soil is watered and seeds are sown.

It is not necessary to place the seeds tightly, otherwise the plantings will turn out to be thickened, the plants will not have enough space for development. Planting depth is not more than one centimeter. The earth is well slammed so that they better grapple with the ground.

Similarly, dill is sown in the summer. Soaked seeds are used for sowing so that the seedlings are more friendly. After sowing, the beds do not need to be watered for three days, otherwise the seeds will go to a great depth.

Further planting care is reduced to moderate watering. Dill does not like too wet soil.

Sowing seeds in autumn and winter

Many gardeners prefer to sow dill or parsley before winter or in winter. This planting allows you to get early vitamin greens. Let’s figure out how to prepare for this method of planting seeds.

For winter or winter sowing, only dry seeds are used. Before winter, dill is sown in early November, when the average daily temperature is below zero degrees. Considering that germination begins at +3 degrees, earlier sowing can cause seeds to swell, and they will not sprout in spring.

The seed is deepened by 1.5-2 cm, and the number of seeds is required more than during spring sowing, by 25 percent. Plantings are sprinkled with mulch, waterproof material is thrown on top in case of rain.

Winter sowing has its own nuances:

  1. Snow is removed on the prepared bed, dry dill seeds are scattered on the surface.
  2. Then compost is poured.
  3. Topped with a layer of snow. It will help the seeds go in the spring to the desired depth.
  4. Seeds will begin to germinate as soon as the snow melts. With the threat of severe frosts, the ridges with dill shoots are covered with a film.

Planting parsley before winter is carried out, just like dill. The most common varieties for autumn sowing:

Planting should be watered twice a week, but the ground should be moist, not damp. Otherwise, the plants will start to get sick with a black leg.

This type of dill is relatively young, as evidenced by the limited number of varieties:

Common features of the variety are increased foliage, large juicy leaves. Bush dill with good agricultural technology grows up to 1.5 meters. Plants are demanding on fertile soil. Since all these varieties are late ripening, they are grown through seedlings.

Seeds are sown in April. Seedlings are planted in open ground after establishing a stable temperature of at least 18 degrees. To obtain a large amount of greenery, umbrellas are removed.
